Ioana Harasim is a self-taught artist from Romania, using the digital medium to explore surreal themes. Her visual style can be described as a mix of realism with doodles, solid shapes, and bursts of contrasting colors. The inspiration for her body of work comes from fashion, people, nature, art and hidden feelings. The editorial illustrations were commissioned by Marie Claire China to be part of an article imagining how future lifestyles might look like. The article addresses online subcultures, future trends in fashion and sustainability, and futuristic cities composed of new architecture being built around the old architecture, creating an interesting visual mix. The magazine provided five topics to serve as inspiration. These were: Baitasi Remade – a neighborhood in Beijing which is a prime example of the mix between old and new architecture, sustainable fashion, vaporwave & sea punk subcultures, and AI assistants becoming a common sight in a future world.
